MediaCity UK

MediaCity UK

MediaCityUK is the new home for the BBC, ITV, Coronation Street, SIS and the University of Salford. Developed by the Peel Group, the vision is for MediaCityUK to become a leading international hub for the creative and digital sectors, and a vibrant destination to work, live and play.

Located at Salford Quays on the banks of Manchester's historic ship canal, MediaCityUK features a wide range of commercial office space, one of the biggest HD studio developments in Europe; 378 apartments, a hotel and a brand new tram stop in the heart of a spectacular five-acre piazza.

BBC - The BBC is in the process of moving 2,300 staff to MediaCityUK, establishing a new headquarters for BBC North.  BBC Sport, Children’s, Radio 5 Live, Learning and parts of Future Media and Technology are relocating to Salford Quays, in addition to the BBC’s existing Manchester city centre operations.  Some of the BBC’s most iconic shows, including Match of the Day, Blue Peter, Dragon’s Den and Question of Sport, will be broadcast from MediaCityUK.  They will be joined by BBC Breakfast from spring 2012.

ITV – ITV Granada is moving to MediaCityUK in 2012.  A new production centre for Coronation Street is being built on Trafford Wharf, next to Imperial War Museum North.  Dedicated offices have also been earmarked within MediaCityUK’s Orange Tower, to house ITV Studios’ production and management teams, ITV regional news, along with support staff across the business.

University of Salford – The university has created a new higher education centre at MediaCityUK, designed to accommodate 1,700 students and staff and offering 40 courses from journalism, animation and TV documentary-making, to technology-based programmes.  Facilities include:  TV and radio studios; digital media and performance labs; post production suites and a living lab research facility.

Studios -  The Studios at MediaCityUK are among the largest high definition facilities in Europe, operated in partnership with SIS. The complex features seven HD television studios – the largest is 12,500 sq ft, the smallest 900 sq ft.  There are two audio studios (one dedicated to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra).  The facilities include: sound and vision control rooms; CTA; ten fast turnaround edit suites; a dubbing theatre; ingest area; dressing rooms; workshops and green rooms.

Tram - The new tram terminus is at the heart of MediaCityUK and it takes 15 minutes to get to Manchester Piccadilly or ten minutes to Eccles Station.
